Why is the church called Anthem?

Anthem

An anthem is a song that makes a community out of individuals, calls a crowd to a higher purpose, and defines who they are.

An anthem is a song that makes a community out of individuals, calls a crowd to a higher purpose, and defines who they are.

We have found this to be true about Jesus. It’s His message of love that brings us together, gives us a purpose worth living for, and essentially defines both who we are and what we’re about.

That's not to say we've arrived - in fact, far from it - but that's at least the direction we're heading - and we want to bring some friends with us on the journey. After all, an anthem isn't meant to be sung alone. Wherever you are on your spiritual quest, if any of this intrigues you, we would love to have you join us for the ride.

We’ve summed up our community’s mission this way:

We are here to awaken every[one]
around us to the life God has for us.

No matter what your background or previous experience with church may have been, if any, we hope that with Anthem you will experience the unconditional love and freedom that comes from knowing God and being known in honest relationships.

The bottom line is this: Life can be hard. But the more we anchor our lives in the teachings of Jesus, the more we’ll experience the life God has for us.

So - join us on the journey.

Join the song. Join the Anthem.

Our Story

Anthem Church began when Colin and Liz Harfield, along with a small group of people, stepped out in faith to start something new in the greater Boston area. Together, they shared a simple but powerful vision: to awaken every[one] around us to the life God has for us.

In a region where many have little connection to church or the Bible, the need for more healthy, Jesus-centered communities was clear. From the very beginning, Anthem has been about creating a place where people can encounter God, build meaningful relationships, and discover their God given purpose.

Our first community started meeting weekly in a home in October 2017 and was made up of local individuals as well as a few who moved from around the country to help plant the church. On October 14, 2018, Anthem held its first public service—and what started small has continued to grow in beautiful ways.

Since then, we’ve seen many lives changed as people have chosen to follow Jesus and be baptized. We’ve grown not just in number, but in depth—through authentic community, vibrant worship, and a shared passion for what God is doing.

More than anything, Anthem is a story of God’s faithfulness. It’s a story we’re still writing—filled with friendships, laughter, and lives being transformed. We’d love for you to be part of what God is doing here.
